MY STORY
My name is Muthoni Kabiru, a self-taught artist based in Dallas, specializing in vibrant, abstract art that reflects a unique fusion of styles and techniques. Drawing from my African heritage and the diverse surroundings of Dallas, I create captivating pieces that blend traditional influences with a modern twist. My work is deeply inspired by African culture, nature, and human emotion, using bold patterns, rich textures, and symbolic imagery to explore the connection between personal experiences and the landscapes I grew up in. Each of my original artworks tells a story that bridges tradition and contemporary life. My mission is to create powerful visual expressions that celebrate African culture while engaging a global audience, inspiring dialogue and emotional connection through my art.

My studio, Ngari na Mugumo, carries a deep connection to my Kikuyu heritage. In my tribal language, 'ngari' means leopard, symbolizing strength and resilience, while 'mugumo' refers to a sacred tree native to East Africa, representing wisdom, continuity, and rootedness. This name reflects the essence of my artistic journey—bold, grounded in tradition, yet always evolving. Just as the leopard moves with grace and power, and the mugumo tree stands as a symbol of endurance, my art strives to honor cultural roots while embracing the new.
